Yijing and Taiji Qigong Workshop, January 2010

Thursday, December 10th, 2009

My teacher and friend, Master Zhongxian Wu, is coming to New York this January to teach a workshop on Yijing, and Taiji Qigong.

The workshop will take place here in Chinatown at Winged Way, January 9th and 10th, 10am-5pm. It costs $250 if you register before December 29th - after which it will cost $295. I have attached a flyer with more information, including a registration form.

Master Wu will introduce us to the ancient Chinese classic, the Yijing (I Ching, or The Book of Change) from the classical shamanic perspective, and teach us the Mother Form of Wudang He Style Taijiquan (Tai Chi Chuan). Taiji is a martial form of qigong. The Mother Form consists of 8 movements that correlate to the 8 fundamental symbols (Bagua) of the Yijing. Master Wu is the lineage holder for this rare and powerful form of taiji, and recently published a book on these subjects, titled Seeking the Spirit of the Book of Change.  Read the introduction to the book here, or buy it here.  We will also have the book available at the workshop.

I have trained with with Master Wu intensively over the past couple years (over 700 hours I think…though it seems a little silly to try to count). He is a rare and gifted teacher, a gateway to wisdom traditions passed on from teacher to student in an unbroken chain that reaches back thousands of years.

Here is a fun picture of Master Wu I took while we hung out on the side of Huashan Mountain last year:

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.

Hope you can join us!

Best,
Ian

Classical Shamanic Qigong - Free Classes

Wednesday, March 11th, 2009

Saturdays in March and April at 10:30am at Winged Way I will teach a simple, powerful series of forms that I learned from my teacher, Master Zhongxian Wu. This Saturday, 3/14 will be the first class. In each class we will practice the same series of forms.

There are four parts to what I will teach: Tu Gu Na Xing (Take in the new, release the old), Shaking (Inner Dancing and Drumming), Three Treasures, and Closing. They are strong, fundamental forms that are part of my daily practice. Also, for those who have not felt qi before, this series is effective at introducing you to this sensation. If you are an old hand with other forms, I am sure you appreciate the power of these forms. The class is for all levels.

These forms are part of the Classical Shamanic Tradition from Mt Emei. (My teacher is the lineage holder, and I will teach the form precisely as I was taught.) It will take about an hour and a half.
